1994 Desert Overlander Desert Overlander Unimog 1550 L 21ft

Price:
$135,000
Summary:
Used 1994
Location:
Dover, DE
Description:

This is our beloved expedition vehicle, in which we lived and traveled for years as twoandamog (we also have a blog with our travel reports). It was a wonderful time of freedom. We traveled as a couple with a dog and cats. A great adventure! The vehicle is in good to very good condition, considering its age, and has been regularly maintained. It is a Unimog 1550L, which is hard to find, with a permissible total weight of 9 tons (which has the advantage that we don't exceed 9 tons). The Unimog has many special technical features that make self-sufficient travel possible and are not commonly found: Tire pressure control system (a great investment, air can be added or released from the tires per axle from the driver's cabin, no need to step out, which makes it a useful feature to avoid getting stuck).Split gearbox (very valuable for steep terrain).Large tanks for water (new) and diesel (providing great independence).Air conditioning in the driver's cabin (very valuable and makes travel more comfortable).New auxiliary heating in the living area, a new large refrigerator, and gas stoves for cooking.Passage between the driver's cabin and the living space.Especially in terms of self-sufficiency, the performance of the solar panels on the roof is noteworthy.A fixture at the rear provides space for outdoor furniture, a grill, bicycles, or a motorcycle, as well as a spare tire that can be raised and lowered using a winch. The large tires are approved, and the pop-up roof in the living area allows for travel with a lowered center of gravity (e.g., sand or on a slope) and comfortable standing while camping. The bed extends to 1.30 meters. The new large water tanks are very convenient. Water can be heated while driving without drawing from the battery. Those familiar with Unimogs know how reliable and off-road capable they are. We haven't had any major breakdowns or failures. Spare parts are available worldwide. It's important for newcomers to know the driving experience that characterizes a Unimog: it's similar to driving a tractor. I loved it! The two crawler gears are intended for the toughest passages, and the Unimog knows best how to drive in those situations. Otherwise, you can still comfortably travel at speeds of up to 100 km/h. In fact, I managed to reach 135 km/h once, but I wouldn't recommend it! There's also the option to use the smaller tires instead of the larger ones, and we're happy to include those tires as well. The off-road capability is unbeatable. We never got stuck, not in the Sahara sand, not in the mud in Russia, but we helped pull many other vehicles out of the sand or mud in emergencies. Additionally, many original parts are still in their original condition and have collector's value, such as the "maisschnauze" (corn snout) and the sun visor. We have folders with the original invoices for the installations, parts, and maintenance. The Unimog has also been regularly serviced in certified Unimog workshops. The vehicle is registered in Switzerland but is currently located in Southern Germany and can be viewed here. For more information about the vehicle, our travels, and our story, visit www.twoandamog.com. I'm more than happy to answer your questions via email or WhatsApp and can also provide more pictures. I look forward to showing the Unimog or taking it for a ride. However, I would greatly appreciate it if you would only contact us if you have a genuine interest, out of respect. Thank you very much.
